Digital
Library Application of Shanghai Library

In
order to provide the top-ranking public library with integrated
resources service to readers all over the world via Internet, tap
the rich collection of Shanghai Library to
serve the public, nine parts of digital resources has been
established in this project, including "Chinese
newspaper & periodical", "Shanghai
photo memory", "Year Book of Shanghai ",
"Chinese rare book", "Opera of southeast china",
"Chinese book before 1949 (1911-1949)" and "Popular science
education program" etc. The library (http://www.diglib.sh.cn),
which
has total data of 200GB, has been open to the public.

Shanghai
Center Library Computer Network

Shanghai
Center Library is one of the significant civilization projects of Shanghai during the 10th Five-Year Plan. With Shanghai Library as
its center, the suburb libraries, libraries in universities &
colleges and research organizations will
be linked in a circle. Now it is already available for eight
libraries to share the resources, covering the libraries of Jing'an District, Huangpu District, Nanhui County, Songjiang
District, Chongming County, the libraries of Shanghai Conservatoire
of Music, Shanghai JiaoTong University and East China Normal
University. It will connect the city of Shanghai from all directions
to form a document information resources network and allow libraries
to share their collection.

Shanghai
Museum Information Project

This
project is an emphasis national project with total investment of
more than 20 million yuan. The system adapts new technologies such
as storage area network (SAN), shelved web servers centralized
management, data warehouse, internet image searching, full-text
retrieving, virtual illustration, VOD and fingerprint ID
identification. Through integration of variety of technologies for
multimedia data flows
acquisition, storage, organization, creation, management and
application, a huge multimedia database was established and a bright
museum website are brought forth to provide retrieving and
management based on the content. The 1st phase of this
project was completed within 100 days and accepted by the
specialists' group, which is headed by 4 academicians of CAS and
CAE on April 4, 2001. The 2nd phase of the project is in
process. And by the completion of this phase, Shanghai Museum would
become an entire digital museum where the collection guiding changed
from physical to informational. The strategic value of Shanghai
Museum would embody more obviously, the Museum would provide wider
services of high quality to society and step into the world's
advanced museum on information management. For more information,

Weak-electric
System for Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade in Songjiang
University Town

The
project introduced the advanced computer technologies, automation
technologies, communication technologies, multimedia technologies
and information processing technologies to provide the international
top-ranking modern teaching environment, modern management
environment and modern life and service environment.
The system consists of the infrastructure management automation
system, campus computer network and running platform, E-teaching
equipments and its control system, VOD system, simultaneous
interpretation and electro-meeting system, teaching management,
property management as well as information service management
system.
After 8 months of striving for construction, the
1st phase of the project has been completed, and
the first batch of students entered the Institute successfully in
the fall of 2001.
